Further Experience with Intracapsular Cataract Extraction by Application of Low Temperature.

چکیده

CATARACT extraction by application of low temperature has now been practised by us for nearly 2 years. The technical details of this method have been described in earlier papers, with reference to intumescent cataract (Krwawicz, 1961a,b). The application of the refrigerated cryoextractor to the cataractous lens produces an instantaneous freezing of the capsule and of the underlying mass, which attach themselves to the instrument firmly enough to assure the easy extraction of the lens. We now use a slightly modified instrument, in which the conical end is divided into one or two steps, and we feel that this adds to the handiness of the cryoextractor. Since minor variavariations in the shape and size do not influence the performance of the cryoextractor, the exact dimensions need not be given in detail, but the actual size is shown in Fig. 1.

Intracapsular Extraction of Intumescent Cataract by Application of Low Temperature.

THE technical improvements recently introduced into cataract surgery, and especially the application of enzymatic zonulolysis, promise to make the extraction of the cataractous lens easier and safer. There remain, however, some potential sources of difficulty, and no procedure is free from the risk of unexpected and often dangerous complications. Enzymatic abolition of the resistance of the zon...

Intracapsular Cataract Extraction Using Low Temperature.

Preliminary Report THE first report on the use of cryosurgery in cataract extraction was made by Krwawicz (1961); since then he has reported 660 extractions performed by this method. Kelman and Cooper (1963) have described its use in an unspecified number of.cases which included subluxated lenses and dislocated lenses. Bellows (1964) reported 6 cases. Rosengren (1965) gave the results of 120 cr...

Longitudinal study on visual outcome and spectacle use after intracapsular cataract extraction in Northern India

PURPOSE More than 3 million cataract extractions are undertaken in India annually. Almost 60% of these operations are intracapsular Cataract Extractions. The subsequent optical correction is provided by aphakic spectacles. The aim of this study is to assess visual outcome and perceived benefits of post-operative use of aphakic spectacles. METHODS One hundred and sixty-seven persons who had un...

Combined intracapsular cataract extraction and trabeculectomy with Severin five-loop posterior chamber intraocular lens.

The efficacy and safety of a combined operation for cataract and glaucoma is established. This procedure of combined cataract extraction and trabeculectomy is taken one step further by the simultaneous insertion of the Severin intraocular posterior chamber lens implant. The results of treating 24 eyes in terms of control of glaucoma are discussed. Postoperative miotics may be required to improv...
